Piper Barry Kydd was born in Montrose in the north east of Scotland. He spent his youth playing along the entire length of the beautiful sandy beach which stretches for miles along the coast. Barry's first tast of piping was as he watched the Montrose Royal British Pipe Band in performances and parades in and around Montrose in the 1960's. But it wasn't until much later when Barry was at work as a "Bobby" and City Patrol Officer in Nottingham, England, that he picked up his first set of bagpipes and kept on playing.

Barry was a founding member of the Nottinghamshire Police Pipe Band and was Secretary of the band for 10 years. He retired from the Nottinghamshire Police in April 2003 and came to Port Orchard, Washington to marry his fiance, Elizabeth.

Barry has since been found piping with the Clan Gordon Pipe Band in Tacoma, and at various events and celebrations in and surrounding Kitsap County.
