The Land of my Birth

Montrose from the South

A closer view of the town from the south

I was born in Montrose in the North East of Scotland.

The church spire has been a landmark in the town for many, many years.

The town is situated right on the coast and I spent my youth playing along the entire length of the beautiful sandy beach which stretches for miles along the coast.

My first taste of piping was as I watched the Montrose Royal British Legion Pipe Band do many performances and parades in and around Montrose in the 1960s. I was too busy playing and fishing in the waters around the town to consider learning to play the bagpipes in those days.

I left school, the Montrose Academy, in 1965 and joined the Army. I left the Army in 1971 and had a few jobs in Nottingham, England until I joined the Nottinghamshire Police in 1973.

I spent many years in uniform as a village 'Bobby' and City Patrol Officer, even working with the Police Dog Unit before I became a Detective.

Me as a young Police dog Handler. My dog's name was Royal.

It was during this time I learned to play the bagpipes. I was a founder member of the Nottinghamshire Police Pipe Band and I was Secretary of the band for nearly 10 years.

I retired from the Nottinghamshire Police in April 2003 and came to Port Orchard, Washington in the Great Pacific Northwest to marry my fiancé Elizabeth.

Having gone through the process of immigration to stay and work in this great country, I am now able to tell you that I am available to play the pipes at weddings, funerals, parties, and other events and gatherings.
